Lucca: the wall, the historical center and Lucca comics

Lucca is famous for its over 4 km long historical walls encircling the old town which became a green pedestrian promenade once they lost their military importance.

The best way to discover Lucca is to see it from above by climbing on the walls, the Guingi Tower or the Clock Tower. The view over the rooftops of the Tuscan town is simply breathtaking. Wandering through the streets of the old town you will be likely to find true architectonical marvels such as the famous Piazza dell’Anfiteatro that follows the circular shape of a former Roman Amphitheater, the Lucca Cathedral (Cattedrale del Duomo di San Martino) which contains the precious Holy Face of Lucca and the tomb of Ilaria del Carretto, the Basilica of San Frediano, the San Michele in Foro church, among many others.
